The best alpine wines come together in Verbier

From July 1 to 8, 2022 in Verbier, in the heart of the Alps, the first festival dedicated to the best wines and grape varieties of the wine regions of the Alpine arc is being held. In just one event and place, festival-goers will be able to taste wines from: Alto Adige, Valais, Savoie, Ticino, Val d'Aoste and Graubünden.

On the programme of the festival: dinners hosted by expert speakers, pop-up restaurants, masterclasses, and a wine bar where more than 120 Alpine wines are being offered by the glass. For this first edition, we have sought to present our guests with a list of emblematic wines from the Alpine regions based on the size of the wine-growing areas and the grape varieties grown. The crus are selected by Michele Caimotto, a great connoisseur of European terroirs.

Why Alpine wines?

Due to the geographical location of Verbier in the heart of the Valais, close to the Aosta Valley and Savoie, the alpine theme immediately became obvious. The extension to regions with similar characteristics such as Alto Adige, Ticino and Graubünden was done in consultation with the experts and contributors of the festival.

Why Verbier?

The opening in Verbier of a branch of the famous London wine club 67 Pall Mall, gave birth to the idea of the festival in the minds of the organisers, local establishments, and communal authorities. The Verbier and Val de Bagnes board of tourism and development saw it as an opportunity to add an epicurean string to its bow by supporting the idea of a wine festival in Verbier. This festival, which aims to become a permanent feature, puts Verbier on the wine tourism map of Europe with an unmissable annual gastronomic event.

Brilliant chefs and speakers

In an exceptional setting, renown Chefs and sommeliers invite the attendees to discover their gourmet creations. For oenophiles and epicureans, they have selected magnificent wines raised with love in the Alps and imagined the most beautiful food and wine pairings.

Active in the world of wine, Simone Lugeon, the President and the author, member of the committee, particularly wanted to bring together, at the same dinner table, epicureans and personalities recognised for their oenological and gastronomic knowledge. Three internationally renowned experts will be the hosts of these gourmet moments: José Vouillamoz, ampelologist and grape geneticist, Richard Pfister, oenologist and perfumer, and Michele Caimotto, wine merchant and passionate about the European terroirs. The three men are also keen to make their stories accessible to the public.
